Atauro island first responder empowerment program

We are looking for motivated, compassionate medics with a hunger for adventure to lend a hand in two remote island communities in Timor-Leste.

The Wild Medic Project are releasing an opportunity for 6 adventurous nurses and paramedics to engage in a new concept called the “Atauro Island First Responder Empowerment Program” run over a 9 day journey. Your journey begins in the capital of Timor-Leste – Dili where you will be immersed into a friendly yet bustling island life, checking out the sights and sounds of the capital. You will experience what it is like to work in the Dili Ambulance Service as well as familiarising yourself with the local MEDIVAC retrieval team.

The next phase involves a water-taxi across to the breathtaking yet unexplored island of Atauro where you will begin some community first aid with a group of volunteers hungry for new skills. You will be involved in local community work for two days before trekking across the Atauro island range to a smaller village that sits beside turquoise waters and eco-thatched bungalows. Here you will be assisting the local community in first aid, obstetrics education and manual retrieval techniques. In your down time explore and snorkel the tranquil coral reef and eat the finest of local produce.

You will return and finish up in the mountainous, cool districts of the mainland while experiencing an authentic coffee growing journey. Timor-Leste has some of the best tasting arabica in the world, making exports of coffee their number one form of income.
